THE GODFATHER ON THE WATERFRONT
"I'M GOING TO MAKE HIM AN OFFER HE CAN'T REFUSE"

This being said, whenever I watch Brando's work, particularly in films like ON THE WATERFRONT and THE GODFATHER, even ONE-EYED JACKS from 1961, I wish he'd have done a film like Roberto Rossellini's 1954 film JOURNEY TO ITALY. Then again, perhaps we would not have gotten the contender if we had. But to follow up ON THE WATERFRONT with a film like JOURNEY TO ITALY ... I'd have enjoyed that. But what does Brando do ... a Musical. Gifting (as *I'd* term it) in something unlike any other character or film he'd done before. But a film in Brando's early career with a Rossellini or Vittorio De Sica, Brando himself saying of "BICYCLE THIEVES is the perfect example of what can be done in front of the motion picture camera and is so rarely done."
