FILMS THAT INSPIRE YOU: Cary Grant's Leading ladies

I was very excited to be part of the CINEMATIC STYLE: Cary Grant and His Leading Ladies event on Friday, November 22, 2024, along with Keith Lodwick, and hosted by Charlotte Croft for the Cary Grant CARY COMES HOME Film Festival.

During the event, I was briefly able to discuss how timeless—from my viewpoint—Cary Grant's style is, and how—imo—you cannot really put his style into a singular box, his style is contemporary for any moment in time. An example of Grant's timeless influence through his personal style and influences on cinema through his characters that I did not get a chance to highlight specifically is (a personal favorite of mine—forgiving the Surrey line, Grant was from Bristol), THE HOLIDAY (2006). 💕 Nonetheless, Cary Grant's style is undoubtedly a topic of his own that creates an undeniable eagerness to continually explore and aspire.
I also discussed costumes and fashion, specifically my own "inspired by" pieces I have made that were inspired by some of Grant's leading ladies! À la TOPPER (1937), THE AWFUL TRUTH (1937), and THE PHILADELPHIA STORY (1940).

And . . . as an extra side-note . . . The two-piece dress I wore during the event, was my homage to Eva Marie Saint in NORTH BY NOTHWEST (1959). When I designed/created the top, it was not based on the dress she wears but going through my wardrobe of garments to pick an outfit, my eyes went directly to it and said: EVA!

Considering the reverse v-line back of the blouse I designed; I could easily think that perhaps the dress worn by Eva Marie Saint in NORTH BY NORTHWEST (1959) must have been somewhere in the back of my subconscious when I sketched the piece and picked out the fabric to create it.
